Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is HModEx™?

HModEx™ is a cloud-based, centralized, open source health economic model marketplace to reduce costs and enhance equity in cancer. It was created under United States National Institutes of Health (NIH) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Award #1R43CA297808-01.

Who developed HModEx™?

HModEx™ was developed by a team with expertise in User Interface/User Experience testing, programming, health economics and software development.

What are the advantages of HModEx™ over static open source model repositories?

Mostly academic sites and GitHub (owned by Microsoft) suffer from health economic models with unreliable quality, small model numbers being deposited, and models not being findable due to poor metadata and inadequate use of novel ontologies for model search. HealthModEx or HModEx (for short) contains only validated models, allows the modeler or model user to import additional data sources to enhance operational validity of the model and incorporates the National Cancer Institute Thesaurus (NCIt) ontology for intelligent search of model disease states.

How are the models validated?

All models are validated via our Expert Advisory Panel members using a comprehensive and accessible tool, developed by Canada’s Drug Agency-l’Agence des Médicaments du Canada (CDA-AMC) [formerly CADTH] Model Validation Tool prior to its acceptance onto the platform.
